CAFNR research advances agriculture, food, natural resources, and community well-being across Texas and beyond. Through USDA NIFA capacity funding and college initiatives, CAFNR supports faculty-led research, extension, and integrated projects that fulfill PVAMU's 1890 land-grant mission — building knowledge, strengthening communities, and preparing the next generation of scientists and practitioners.

    How Proposals Are Evaluated

    Each proposal is scored by a panel of assigned evaluators using a 100-point rubric. Reviews are confidential, and reviewers with conflicts of interest are excluded.

    Reporting Requirements

    If a proposal is accepted and officially approved, annual reports/results must be submitted each year no later than March 1 of the following fiscal year in the NIFA Reporting System (NRS).

    About CAFNR Research

    The College of Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources has funding available to support faculty members pursuing opportunities that help the university fulfill its land-grant mission. Awards are funded through United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) capacity funds and college programs, including:

    Agricultural Research at 1890 Land-Grant Institutions

    Supports agricultural research opportunities that build knowledge and technology serving Texas and the nation.

    Agricultural Extension Programs at 1890 Institutions

    Assists diverse audiences — particularly those with limited social and economic resources — through practical, research-based learning and training that responds to changing community needs.
